How to use

Peel the backing strip, press the pad centrally onto clean dry underwear, then fold the wings under the fabric so they anchor it. Change the pad every four to six hours on a normal flow day, and more often on heavy days, regardless of how full it looks. Wash and dry your hands before and after changing. Wrap the used pad in its own wrapper or in paper and put it in a bin, never down a toilet or pit latrine. Do not use a pad and a tampon at the same time, and change to a fresh pad after swimming or heavy exercise.

Important warnings

Leaving a pad on far longer than four to six hours is the commonest cause of skin irritation, rashes, odour and the itching many women blame on the brand. If you develop a rash, burning or intense itching that persists after the period, come to the pharmacy, since a recurring problem is more often a yeast infection or a contact reaction to fragrance than a defective pad. Soaking through a maxi pad in under two hours, flooding, passing clots bigger than a fifty-shilling coin, periods lasting more than seven days, or bleeding heavy enough to leave you dizzy and breathless are not normal and should be assessed for anaemia and its cause. Bleeding between periods, after sex or after menopause always needs a doctor.

Storage

Store in a clean, dry place away from damp, dust and strong-smelling substances. Bathrooms are humid, and a pack left open in one absorbs moisture and odour, so keep pads in a closed drawer or box. Keep the individual wrappers intact until use; the wrapper is what keeps the pad clean. Do not use pads from a torn or wet pack.
