Description

Fluconazole 150mg tablets contain fluconazole 150mg, an antifungal medicine used to treat infections caused by yeast and other fungi.

It is commonly used for vaginal thrush, oral thrush and certain other fungal infections, helping clear the infection and relieve symptoms such as itching, irritation and abnormal discharge.

Take only as directed; tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, have liver problems or take other medicines, as fluconazole can interact with some drugs.

How to use

For vaginal thrush the standard treatment is one 150 mg tablet taken as a single dose, with or without food, at any time of day. Symptoms usually begin improving within one to two days and are typically gone within a week. For skin or nail fungal infections the same strength may be prescribed weekly for several weeks, so follow the prescription. Do not repeat the dose within a week because the itching has not fully gone; the tissue takes several days to settle after the yeast is killed.

Important warnings

Fluconazole inhibits liver enzymes and has a long list of significant interactions: it raises levels of warfarin, phenytoin, ciclosporin, tacrolimus, some statins and several antiretrovirals, and it should not be combined with medicines that prolong the QT interval. Give the pharmacist a complete medicine list even for a single dose. Avoid in pregnancy, particularly repeated or high doses, and discuss breastfeeding. Tell your prescriber about liver disease, kidney disease, heart rhythm problems or low potassium. Stop and seek care for a rash that blisters or peels, yellowing of the eyes, dark urine or severe abdominal pain.

Storage

Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place, protected from light and moisture, and out of reach of children. Keep the tablet in its blister until you take it. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack. A single tablet is easily mislaid in a bag or drawer, so keep it in the original packaging where it remains identifiable rather than loose among other medicines.
