Doflodina Tablets (Ofloxacin & Ornidazole)

Description

How to use

One tablet twice daily, twelve hours apart, after food with a full glass of water, or exactly as prescribed. Separate each dose by at least two hours from milk, antacids, iron, calcium, zinc and magnesium supplements and multivitamins, which bind the ofloxacin and can destroy most of the dose. Maintain a high fluid intake, and use oral rehydration solution while diarrhoea continues. Complete the full course rather than stopping when symptoms settle, and avoid strong sunlight for the duration.

Important warnings

Contains a fluoroquinolone. Stop and contact a doctor at once for tendon pain, swelling or tenderness, particularly at the Achilles, for new numbness, tingling or burning in the hands or feet, or for confusion, hallucinations, severe anxiety, depression or suicidal thoughts. Avoid in epilepsy, myasthenia gravis, known long QT syndrome, pregnancy, breastfeeding and in children and adolescents. Both components can affect peripheral nerves, so nerve symptoms deserve particular attention on this combination. Tell your prescriber about warfarin, theophylline, steroids and diabetes medicines. Report severe or bloody diarrhoea during or up to two months after the course.

Storage

Store below 30 degrees Celsius in a dry place, protected from light and moisture, out of reach of children. Keep tablets in their blister until each dose. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack. Return unused tablets to the pharmacy; a broad combination antibiotic sitting in a household cupboard is the most likely of all medicines to be taken for the next unexplained stomach upset without any assessment at all.
