Flugal Suspension contains Fluconazole 50mg/5ml, an antifungal medicine used to treat infections caused by fungi and yeast.
It is commonly used for oral thrush, other mouth or throat fungal infections, vaginal yeast infections and certain more serious fungal infections, as prescribed.
Shake well before each dose and use exactly as prescribed; do not stop early unless advised, and seek medical advice if you have liver problems or take medicines that may interact with fluconazole.
Shake the bottle before each dose and measure with the syringe or cup supplied. Fluconazole is given once daily, which makes it simple to remember, and can be given with or without food. For oral thrush, hold or swish the dose in the mouth for a moment before swallowing if the child is old enough, so it contacts the affected surface. Complete the course, which is usually seven to fourteen days depending on the infection; stopping when the white patches disappear is the commonest reason thrush recurs within a fortnight.
Tell the prescriber about liver disease, kidney disease, a known heart rhythm problem or long QT interval, and low potassium. Fluconazole has a very long list of drug interactions because it inhibits liver enzymes: it raises levels of warfarin, phenytoin, ciclosporin, tacrolimus, some statins, certain antiretrovirals and several other medicines, and it should not be combined with drugs that prolong the QT interval. Hand the pharmacist a complete medicine list. Avoid high-dose or prolonged fluconazole in pregnancy. Stop and seek care for a rash that blisters or peels, yellowing of the eyes, dark urine, severe abdominal pain, or palpitations and fainting.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius or as the label directs, upright with the cap tightly closed, protected from light and out of reach of children. Do not freeze. Shake before every dose. Some fluconazole suspensions are reconstituted from powder and then have a limited in-use life of around fourteen days; check the label and write the date on the bottle. Do not use after the expiry date.
