Combisaf Kit contains Azithromycin 1g, Fluconazole 150mg and Secnidazole 1g, a combination used for mixed vaginal infections.
It is used for conditions such as bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis and vaginal yeast infections, and may also be used for certain mixed sexually transmitted infections.
Use only as directed by a healthcare professional; the medicines have important interactions and precautions, so avoid self-treatment, especially during pregnancy.
This is a single-dose kit, not a daily course. The usual pattern is to take the whole kit at once after food, or exactly as your prescriber has written on the pack, and to take it with a full glass of water. Food reduces the nausea that secnidazole and azithromycin can cause on an empty stomach. Your sexual partner is normally treated at the same time with the same kit, even if he has no symptoms, otherwise the infection is simply passed back. Avoid sex until both of you have completed treatment and symptoms have gone.
Do not drink any alcohol while taking this kit or for at least three days afterwards. Secnidazole with alcohol causes flushing, vomiting, headache and racing heartbeat. Not for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding unless a doctor has specifically prescribed it. Tell the pharmacist if you take warfarin, phenytoin, ciclosporin, statins, or any heart-rhythm medicine, because azithromycin and fluconazole both interact. Avoid if you have liver disease, a known long QT heart rhythm, or an allergy to macrolides, azoles or nitroimidazoles. Seek help urgently for a rash with blistering, yellowing of the eyes, or a fainting spell after the dose.
Store below 30 degrees Celsius in a dry place, out of reach of children. Keep the tablets in the original blister until you take them so each one stays identifiable, since the kit contains three different medicines. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack.
