Description

How to use

One tablet every twelve hours with a full glass of water, with or without food. Separate it by at least two hours from milk and dairy, antacids, iron, calcium, zinc and magnesium supplements, multivitamins and sucralfate. Drink two to three litres of water daily through the course, which both helps a urinary infection clear and reduces the chance of crystals forming in the urine. Take the tablets at the same times each day and complete the prescribed course rather than stopping when the burning settles.

Important warnings

Stop and contact a doctor immediately for tendon pain or swelling, particularly the Achilles, for new numbness, tingling or burning in the hands or feet, or for confusion, hallucinations, severe anxiety, depression or suicidal thoughts. Avoid in epilepsy, myasthenia gravis, known long QT syndrome, pregnancy, breastfeeding and in children and adolescents. Avoid strong sunlight. Tell your prescriber about theophylline, tizanidine, warfarin, steroids, diabetes medicines and any heart-rhythm drug. Report severe or bloody diarrhoea during or up to two months after the course, and do not treat it with an anti-diarrhoeal.

Storage

Keep below 30 degrees Celsius in a dry place away from light, out of reach of children. Leave the tablets in the blister until each dose. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack. Return unused tablets to the pharmacy instead of keeping them; a half-used pack of ciprofloxacin in a household cupboard is the classic source of self-prescribed antibiotic courses for the wrong illness.
