Auropodox 200 mg Tablets (Cefpodoxime)

Description

How to use

One 200 mg tablet twice daily, twelve hours apart, or as prescribed. Take it with food, because cefpodoxime proxetil absorption improves substantially in the presence of a meal and acid; on an empty stomach the dose may be inadequate. Swallow whole with water. Avoid taking antacids or acid-reducing medicines such as omeprazole or ranitidine within two hours, since raising stomach pH markedly reduces absorption. Complete the full course as prescribed, typically five to fourteen days depending on the infection.

Important warnings

Not for anyone with a cephalosporin allergy or a severe penicillin allergy involving swelling, hives or breathing difficulty. Tell your prescriber about kidney disease, which requires dose reduction, previous colitis, and any acid-suppressing medicine you take, since these directly reduce how much drug you absorb. Seek emergency care for facial or throat swelling, wheeze, or a rash that blisters or peels. Report severe, watery or bloody diarrhoea during or up to two months after the course. This is a reserve-grade antibiotic; do not keep leftovers or take it for a viral illness.

Storage

Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place, protected from moisture, light and heat, out of reach of children. Keep the tablets sealed in the blister until each dose and do not decant them into a pill organiser. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack. Return unused tablets to the pharmacy rather than keeping an expensive broad-spectrum antibiotic in a household medicine box.
