Description

How to use

Disperse the tablet in a small amount of clean drinking water, about a tablespoon, stir until it breaks up, and give the whole amount immediately; rinse the cup with a little more water and give that too so no medicine is left behind. Do not make it up in advance. It may be given with or without food. Usually two or three times daily as prescribed. An older child able to swallow may take the tablet whole with water. Complete the full course rather than stopping when the breathing has settled.

Important warnings

Not for anyone with a penicillin or beta-lactam allergy. Tell the prescriber about kidney disease and about glandular fever, in which amoxicillin causes a widespread rash in the great majority of patients, a rash frequently mistaken for allergy that then labels a child unnecessarily for life. Seek emergency care for hives, swelling of the face, lips or tongue, wheeze or breathing difficulty. Report severe or bloody diarrhoea during or in the weeks after the course. A flat, blotchy, non-itchy rash appearing several days into treatment is common and usually not true allergy, but show it to a clinician rather than judging it at home.

Storage

Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a genuinely dry place, out of reach of children. Dispersible tablets are designed to absorb water instantly, so humidity spoils them; keep each tablet sealed in its blister until the moment of use, never transfer them to a pill organiser, and keep them away from bathroom and kitchen steam. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack. No refrigeration is needed, which is the format's main advantage.
