Fibron 40 mg contains febuxostat 40 mg, which selectively inhibits xanthine oxidase, an enzyme involved in the production of uric acid. By reducing uric acid production, febuxostat helps lower and maintain serum urate levels.
It is used in adults for chronic hyperuricaemia associated with gout, including patients with a history or presence of tophi or gouty arthritis. Febuxostat is a long-term urate-lowering treatment and does not provide immediate treatment for an acute gout flare.
Route: Oral. For chronic hyperuricaemia associated with gout: Starting dose: 80 mg once daily according to the Fibron product information. Check serum uric acid after 2–4 weeks. If serum uric acid remains above the target, the dose may be increased to 120 mg once daily under medical supervision. Fibron 40 mg tablets may therefore be used as part of dose adjustment according to the prescriber’s instructions. They can be taken with or without food.
