Description

Fibron 80 mg contains febuxostat 80 mg, which reduces the production of uric acid by inhibiting xanthine oxidase. It is used in adults with chronic hyperuricaemia associated with gout, including patients with gouty arthritis or tophi.

Febuxostat is a urate-lowering treatment intended for long-term control of serum uric acid. It does not provide immediate pain relief during an acute gout attack.

The usual treatment target is to reduce and maintain serum uric acid below 6 mg/dL (357 µmol/L).

How to use

Route: Oral Usual adult dose for chronic gout: 80 mg once daily. Take at approximately the same time each day. May be taken with or without food. Serum uric acid is generally checked after 2–4 weeks. If it remains above 6 mg/dL, the dose may be increased to 120 mg once daily where appropriate and available. Gout flare: Febuxostat is a long-term urate-lowering medicine, not an acute painkiller. A gout flare can occur when treatment is initiated, and anti-inflammatory flare prophylaxis such as colchicine or an NSAID may be prescribed. Missed dose: Take it when remembered unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose.
