Kemoxyl + F capsules contain Amoxicillin 250mg and Flucloxacillin 250mg, two penicillin-type antibiotics that work together against bacterial infections.
They are used for susceptible bacterial infections such as those affecting the throat, ears, chest, skin, soft tissues and other areas.
Take exactly as prescribed and complete the full course; avoid use if you have a serious penicillin allergy, and do not use it for colds or flu.
The usual adult dose is one capsule four times a day, which makes twenty capsules a five-day course. Both components are absorbed much better on an empty stomach, so take each capsule one hour before food or two hours after, with a full glass of water, and not with milk. Space the four doses through the day: on waking, mid-morning, late afternoon and at bedtime. Swallow whole, stay upright for a few minutes afterwards, and complete the entire course even once the wound looks clean and the swelling has gone.
Do not take if you are allergic to penicillin or any beta-lactam antibiotic, since both ingredients are penicillins. Tell your prescriber about liver disease, kidney disease, previous jaundice on flucloxacillin, or glandular fever, in which amoxicillin causes a widespread rash. Seek emergency care for swelling of the face, lips or tongue, wheeze, difficulty breathing, or a rash that blisters or peels. Report yellowing of the eyes, dark urine, pale stools or itching without a rash, which can appear up to two months after the course and indicate a liver reaction to the flucloxacillin component. Severe or bloody diarrhoea also needs assessment.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place away from moisture, direct sunlight and heat, and out of reach of children. Keep capsules in their blister or original container until each dose. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack, and return unused capsules to the pharmacy rather than keeping a partial course, which is how leftover antibiotics end up being taken for the wrong illness.
