Flamox Capsules (Amoxicillin & Flucloxacillin)

Description

How to use

One capsule four times a day for five days, or exactly as prescribed. Take each dose on an empty stomach, one hour before food or two hours after, with a full glass of water, and avoid taking it with milk. A practical schedule is on waking, mid-morning, late afternoon and at bedtime. Swallow the capsule whole and remain upright for a few minutes. Complete every capsule in the pack, even after the boil has drained or the swelling has settled, because skin infections resolve visibly well before the bacteria are eliminated.

Important warnings

Not for anyone with a penicillin or beta-lactam allergy. Tell your prescriber about liver disease, kidney disease, any previous jaundice on flucloxacillin, or glandular fever. Get emergency help for facial, lip or tongue swelling, wheeze, breathing difficulty, or a rash that blisters or peels. Report yellow eyes, dark urine, pale stools, or itching without a rash at any point during the course or in the two months afterwards, as flucloxacillin can cause a delayed liver reaction, more commonly over the age of 50 and with longer courses. Severe or bloody diarrhoea needs medical review rather than an anti-diarrhoeal.

Storage

Keep below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place, away from steam, sunlight and heat, and out of reach of children. Leave the capsules in their blister or bottle until each dose. Do not use past the expiry date on the pack. Return unused capsules to the pharmacy rather than storing a partial course at home, since leftover antibiotics are almost always eventually taken for the wrong illness or by the wrong person.
