Ampiclo-Dawa Suspension contains Ampicillin 125mg and Cloxacillin 125mg per 5ml, two penicillin-type antibiotics that work together against certain bacterial infections.
It is used for susceptible inflections such as those affecting the chest/lungs, throat, ears, skin and soft tissues.
Shake well before each dose and give exactly as prescribed; complete the full course and avoid use in anyone with a serious penicillin allergy.
The powder is made up with water by the pharmacist or exactly as the label directs, then shaken hard before every single dose. Measure with the syringe or cup supplied, never a kitchen spoon. Both components are absorbed much better on an empty stomach, so give it one hour before food or two hours after, and not with milk. It is normally given four times a day at roughly six-hourly intervals. Complete the whole course prescribed, and discard whatever is left at the end of the in-use period rather than saving it.
Not for a child with any penicillin or beta-lactam allergy. Tell the prescriber about kidney problems, liver problems, or glandular fever, in which ampicillin causes a dramatic rash in almost everyone who takes it. Seek emergency care for facial, lip or tongue swelling, wheezing, difficulty breathing, or a rash that blisters or peels. Report severe or bloody diarrhoea during or in the weeks after the course, and any yellowing of the eyes or dark urine. Do not use a bottle reconstituted for a previous illness, and do not share the syrup with a sibling who has not been assessed.
Keep the sealed powder below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place. Once water has been added, store the suspension in a refrigerator between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius, never in a freezer, and throw away the remainder after the in-use period stated on the label, usually seven days. Write the date you made it up on the bottle. Shake before each dose and keep it out of reach of children.
