Azithromycin 250mg tablets contain azithromycin 250mg, a macrolide antibiotic used to fight certain bacterial infections.
It is commonly used for bacterial infections of the throat, ears, sinuses, chest/lungs and skin, and some sexually transmitted infections.
Take exactly as prescribed and complete the full course; it can be taken with or without food, but do not use it for colds or flu.
Take exactly the regimen your prescriber has written. The 250 mg strength is commonly used in a five-day pattern of two tablets on the first day followed by one daily, and in dose-adjusted courses for lighter adults and adolescents, so the number of tablets and days will not always match this pack. Take it once daily at the same time with a full glass of water, with or without food. Keep two hours between the tablet and any aluminium or magnesium antacid. Confirm at the counter how many packs your course requires.
Not for anyone allergic to azithromycin, erythromycin or clarithromycin. Tell your prescriber about liver or kidney disease, myasthenia gravis, a known long QT interval, heart rhythm problems, or low potassium or magnesium. Report palpitations or fainting during the course. Seek care for a blistering or peeling rash, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or yellow eyes with dark urine. Severe or bloody diarrhoea during or up to two months after the course needs assessment rather than an anti-diarrhoeal. Mention warfarin, digoxin, ciclosporin and any other QT-prolonging medicine.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place, protected from moisture, sunlight and heat, and out of reach of children. Keep the tablets in their blister until each dose. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack. If tablets remain at the end of the course, it means doses were missed; tell the pharmacist rather than keeping them for later, because an interrupted macrolide course is exactly what breeds resistance.
