Amoxicillin/Clavulanate Potassium tablets contain Amoxicillin 500mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg per tablet, a combination antibiotic for bacterial infections.
They are used for infections of the ears, sinuses, throat, chest/lungs, skin, teeth and urinary tract caused by susceptible bacteria.
Take with food and exactly as prescribed; complete the full course and avoid use if you have a serious penicillin allergy or previous liver problems from this medicine.
The usual adult dose is one tablet every eight to twelve hours, exactly as prescribed. Take it at the start of a meal, not after or between meals, because food is what keeps the clavulanate from upsetting your stomach. Swallow whole with water and space the doses evenly, including the overnight gap. Complete the full course your prescriber wrote even when you feel better by day three, and never keep the last few tablets for a future illness.
Do not take this if you are allergic to penicillin or to any beta-lactam antibiotic, or if a previous course of amoxiclav caused jaundice or a liver problem. Tell your prescriber about kidney or liver disease, glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis), or treatment with warfarin, methotrexate or allopurinol. Stop immediately and seek emergency care for swelling of the face, lips or tongue, difficulty breathing, or a rapidly spreading rash. Report severe watery or bloody diarrhoea during or after the course, and yellowing of the eyes or skin, which can appear even a few weeks after finishing.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place, out of reach of children. Clavulanate absorbs moisture and degrades in humid air, so leave the tablets in their foil blister until you take each dose and never decant them into a pill box for the week. Do not use beyond the expiry date on the pack.
